Medical Technologist

Port Jefferson, NY

Mon-Fri Day shift & Overnight shift

Job Summary

The Medical Technologist performs complex laboratory testing and analysis on blood, serum, urine, and tissue samples to support the diagnosis and treatment of disease states. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of laboratory results, maintaining laboratory equipment, and supporting quality patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Essential Responsibilities

Laboratory Testing & Analysis

Conduct chemical analyses of blood, serum, urine, and tissue samples.

Identify normal and abnormal test results to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.

Report patient results accurately and notify medical staff of critical findings.

Equipment Maintenance & Quality Control

Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory analyzers and instrumentation.

Perform quality control procedures and required instrument studies.

Complete preventative maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues as needed.

Coordinate equipment servicing and evaluate new equipment and laboratory techniques.

Laboratory Operations

Prepare reagents and solutions necessary for laboratory testing.

Set up, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces.

Monitor and maintain laboratory supply inventory.

Documentation & Communication

Communicate laboratory findings and technical information clearly and professionally.

Assist with writing and updating laboratory procedures under supervision.

Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing laboratory findings.

Maintain strict patient confidentiality and compliance with laboratory standards.

Professional Development

Participate in continuing education programs to maintain competency and expand professional knowledge.

Preferred Experience & Skills

Experience with Serum Protein Electrophoresis and Immunofixation, including both wet work and interpretation, is highly preferred.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Effective communication and organizational skills

Education & Licensing Requirements

Bachelor's degree or Associate degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or related field

Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as required by the State of New York
