Medical Technologist

Under the direction of the Laborory Medical Director and Director of Laborory Services. Performs clinical testing in least two of the following areas: blood bank, microbiology, serology, chemistry, hemology, or urinalysis. Obtains and receives specimens, understands method principles, performs QC procedures, interprets results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines.

• Obtains blood specimens by skin puncture or venipuncture using approprie technique and maintaining the integrity of the specimen in relion to the test performed.
• Prepares samples for analysis and accurely and efficiently. Evalues suitability of specimen for analysis: appropriely accepting or rejecting specimens according to laborory policy.
• Evalues laborory results through correlion with common physiological conditions. Reports test results accurely and timely per laborory protocols.
• Anticipes and recognizes errors, responding in an approprie manner by reporting to supervisor or technologist in charge.
• Follows work instructions for critical values and delta checks.
• Conducts established quality control procedures on analytical tests, procedures, equipment, reagents, media, and products and maintains accure documention per department protocols.
• Reviews QC and pient da from previous day (documention and problems referred to supervisor).
• Maintains competence needed for health care advancements, scientific research, technology, new equipment and/or new procedures.
• Completes educions and competency documention before due de.
• Provides clinical oriention and supervision for new or less experience personnel as assigned and can function as acting supervisor as qualified and assigned.

Required:

• Bachelors degree in medical technology or reled science with approved medical clinical training
• Minimum 1 year experience laborory work (may be part of clinical training program)

Required:

• New York Ste Clinical Laborory Technologist license.
