Sleep Technologist Jobs in Denver, CO
A Sleep Technologist, also referred to as a Polysomnographic Technologist, works in the med tech industry and specializes in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders. They carry out polysomnographic tests to study sleep patterns in patients, evaluate and interpret these studies, and provide treatment recommendations. They are also responsible for maintaining the equipment used for these studies, as well as managing patient care. They work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, sleep clinics, and research facilities. They must have meticulous attention to detail, excellent patient care skills, and strong technical abilities.
Prior to becoming a Sleep Technologist, an individual may have various roles in the healthcare or tech industry. They might start as a Medical Laboratory Technician, where they would gain experience in handling and analyzing patient samples. Alternatively, they could work as a Respiratory Therapist, helping patients with breathing issues, which are often linked to sleep disorders. Prior experience as a Registered Nurse can also be beneficial, as it provides a broad foundation in patient care. In terms of certifications, a Sleep Technologist should ideally hold a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification, which is the gold standard in the field. They may also need to be certified in CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS).
