Job Description

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Supervisor) is responsible for performing moderate or high complexity laboratory tests, as defined by CLIA, in microbiology and molecular testing. This role involves directing, supervising, and coordinating all functions and activities within the clinical lab.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and ensure the overall functioning of the clinical laboratory, including managing workflow, scheduling staff, and ensuring timely completion of tests and procedures.
• Ensure that all clinical testing complies with safety and CLIA/CAP guidelines.
• Provide direct supervision onsite when high complexity testing is performed by any individual.
• Train and provide orientation to all laboratory personnel; review all associated training documents; and perform evaluations of testing personnel performances.
• Troubleshoot highly complex problems that can adversely affect test performance.
• Manage inventory of laboratory equipment, reagents, and supplies. Coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Perform laboratory testing and analyze test results accurately and efficiently, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory data.
• Conduct or coordinate with internal and external audits and report instances of noncompliance to the appropriate compliance personnel. Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement efforts.
• Conduct competency assessments and proficiency testing for all laboratory personnel per CAP/CLIA guidelines.
• Implement quality control measures to maintain the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results and review QC/QA metrics monthly.
• Keep up to date with the latest advancements and techniques in laboratory science through continuous education and professional development.

Essential Skills

• California State license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist) - MUST HAVE
• 5+ years of experience in Clinical Laboratory Science
• Experience with molecular testing and next generation sequencing

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in a related field

Work Environment

This position is based in a CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited laboratory, operating Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. The role will initially involve supervising 3-4 direct reports, with potential for team expansion in the next 6-12 months. The lab utilizes state-of-the-art equipment including Thermocyclers, Illumina sequencers, Alinity M, and Hamilton Liquid Handlers. This is a smaller lab environment ideal for those seeking to have their leadership voice heard and play a key role in shaping the lab team.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
