Job Description

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing phases with speed and accuracy as authorized under the California State Business and Professions Code. The role involves analyzing test results for diverse patient populations, including pediatric, neonatal, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. The scientist reviews and reports test results to the appropriate provider or location, while maintaining quality control, quality assurance, and preventive maintenance according to department policy. Interaction with laboratory computer systems and adherence to yearly state-determined educational requirements are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and record instrument preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Document daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance procedures as per department protocol.
  • Record quality control results according to established protocol.
  • Verify test sample requirements, including labeling accuracy and tube containers, before testing.
  • Conduct all test procedures as outlined in the department's procedure manual.
  • Crosscheck results for appropriate correlations and report testing results accurately.
  • Record required information on department log sheets, worksheets, printouts, and file cards.
  • Utilize computer systems for data entry and reporting.
  • Perform proficiency testing, inter-laboratory tests, and competency assessments as required.
  • Complete special assignments in a timely manner with desired results.
  • Efficiently complete procedures during assigned work shifts.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in a hospital setting.
  • Proficient in test sampling and lab testing.
  • Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in California.
  • Experience on all benches, including blood bank.
  • Ability to troubleshoot analyzers and apply QC rules.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Open availability, preferably PM and overnight shifts, potentially AM shift.
  • Experience in blood banking (antibody identifications) and chemistry (troubleshooting and maintenance).
  • Ability to handle graveyard shift and weekend work.

Work Environment

The position is based in the main laboratory, with work hours from 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM. Fridays are off with rotating weekends.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
