Job Summary
A successful candidate for this position would be self-motivated and ready to learn. The Laboratory Technician is tasked with supporting the laboratory chemists in developing solvent based inks for Hitachi industrial inkjet printers and supporting daily laboratory operation. A successful candidate will learn and understand how to safely work with Hitachi ink jet printers under various conditions using organic solvents. Safety is paramount to the Hitachi group and the candidate is required to meet and understand requirements for safe chemical operations. A good candidate will have an eye for detail and possess good laboratory record keeping practices.
We welcome interested individuals fascinated by chemical science and technology who have a desire to learn and contribute to the development of solvent-based fluids for Hitachi customers. You will be working in a small, tight knit environment which develops, tests, and manufactures inks for the marking and coding needs of today's industrial market.
Responsibilities
Working with industrial printers on a regular basis while following service manual instructions and guidance of team members for maintenance and troubleshooting purposes
Careful use of analytical instruments to support development and manufacture of inks
Support evaluations of product functionality or end user concerns using Hitachi ink jet printers
Maintain lab material stock from the warehouse and monitor laboratory supply stock alongside chemists
Test fluids in Hitachi printers under temperature-controlled conditions which mimic customer factory environments
Testing of products at up to 50C and down to 0C in short durations while maintaining employee safety
Follow established lab testing protocols and work instructions to properly record testing results in lab notebook
Work with Hitachi printers while learning to clean, maintain, repair, and test accurately
Maintain tidy workspace area, clean lab equipment, removal of waste in compliance with OSHA standards
Assess potential issues and needs of laboratory operation via regular communication with team members
Education and/or Qualification Experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Associate degree with emphasis on technical training, chemistry or engineering
- HS diploma (or GED equivalent) with 4+ years of laboratory experience and/or relatable testing experience
Requirements/skills for Candidate
- Ability to work with chemicals and solvent based inks safely
- Self-motivated with willingness to multitask as needed
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a hands-on mentality
- Awareness of chemical safety and adherence to safety guidelines in the laboratory
- Able to work well in a small team environment with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Office programs or similar
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Strong attention to detail
- Careful handling of lab equipment and printers
