Job Requirements

POSITION SUMMARY

To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by performing a variety of technical activities related to patient care, as well as support activities in the operating room under the direction of a registered nurse.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs a variety of duties in an operating room observing proper techniques to include preparing rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment; open sterile supplies and arrange sterile setups for operations.
  • Creates, maintains, and terminates sterile field for surgical procedures.
  • Properly handles and cares for all instruments and equipment. Checks materials and equipment for proper functioning and adequacy; reports faulty equipment and instruments per policy.
  • Assists with precepting new technical personnel.
  • Attends in-services and mandatory meetings.
  • Cooperates with the nurse in the individualized plan of care for each patient.
  • Anticipates needs of surgeon and surgical assistants in the operating room, passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies needed in an operative procedure.
  • Demonstrates an ability to perform all duties required of a Surgical Technologist in accordance with established procedures and completion of skills check list.

Work Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:
  • Completion of Health First's On-The-Job Training Program for Surgical Technician,
  • OR graduate of a program for Surgical Technologist (Military, Community College, or
  • School for Surgical Technology),
  • OR one year of work experience as a surgical tech or surgical assistant
  • Licensure: None
  • Certification: Must hold American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.
  • Work Experience: None
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Reliable transportation with ability to respond from location within 30 minutes ofassigned facility when on call
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable with daily schedule and assigned tasks
  • Ability to respond appropriately to stressful or life-threatening situations.
  • Detail-oriented with ability for continuous concentration on an activity.
  • Excellent customer service skills with ability to interact effectively with medical staffand patient care teams.
  • Motivated to complete milestones and competencies with ability to receiveconstructive criticism and apply to future performance.
  • Ability to work autonomously, while consulting chain of command as appropriate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification: Certification as a Surgical Technologist
  • Work Experience: One year of experience as a surgical technologist

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Medium

  • Physically agile; may require walking, standing running, bending, stooping, kneeling,climbing or crouching frequently
  • Medium work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds of forceoccasionally, with or without assistance
  • May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environmentsincluding tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or overhead
  • May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistanceup to 90% of the assigned shift
  • May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality,lighting and/or low to loud noise
  • May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particlesfollowing OSHA and CDC Guidelines
  • Communicating with others to exchange information
  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined; on site or remote
  • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may requireuse of personal vehicle
