Position Summary:
The Lab Assistant supports essential operations within the clinical laboratory by performing phlebotomy, specimen processing, and a variety of rotating workflow tasks. This role ensures accurate collection, labeling, handling, and preparation of specimens to support high-quality diagnostic testing across the health system. Working within a collaborative laboratory environment, the Lab Assistant coordinates effectively with laboratory professionals and clinical staff to support timely turnaround of results. Responsibilities also include assisting with send-out coordination, inventory maintenance, and communication with care teams, while consistently upholding patient safety, confidentiality, and regulatory standards in all aspects of laboratory support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection using established safety and identification protocols to ensure accuracy and patient comfort.
- Process, label, and prepare specimens for testing or send out, following laboratory procedures and transport requirements.
- Maintain organized work areas and monitor inventory levels, ensuring adequate supplies for routine and specialty testing.
- Verify specimen information, resolve basic collection or labeling issues, and communicate with nursing or clinical staff to support timely testing.
- Enter and track specimen data in laboratory systems, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to regulatory and quality standards.
- Participate in rotating laboratory support duties as assigned to maintain efficient workflow across all service areas.
