Job Description Summary:

The Clinical Lead Cardiac Sonographer will function in the capacity of the Technical Lead of the Echocardiography Outpatient Department at 2 Bon Air while also performing echocardiograms and all related testing. This position provides general supervision of the technical staff at the offsite outpatient testing centers, delegates specific responsibilities to the technical staff, oversees departmental scheduling and recordkeeping, operation and maintenance of facility equipment, compliance of staff to Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) Standards, quality assurance and clinical correlation, works with Medical Director and medical staff to ensure quality patient care and appropriate technical training.

Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:

Job Specifications:

Education:

  • Associates Degree required, Bachelors Degree Preferred.

Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of two years of recent echo experience in an acute care setting.

  • Incumbent must have worked under the guidelines of the Intersocietal Accreditation Society and the American Society of Echocardiography.

  • Demonstrated clinical expertise with transthoracic, and stress echocardiography.

License and Certifications:

  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, RDCS

  • Current BLS

  • American Society of Echocardiography membership preferred.

Prerequisite Skills:

  • Knowledge of Safe practices

  • Knowledge of and adherence to company and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge and proper use and maintenance of ultrasound equipment.

  • Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology

  • Knowledge of use of computers for electronic medical records, DICOM format and PACS systems.

Duties And Responsibilities:

Essential (Not Modifiable)

  • Performs all routine and critical echocardiography procedures with competency and in accordance to the physician order.

  • Provides clinical and technical support to the staff and physicians.

  • Role model for coordinating and integrating interdepartmental services.

  • Identifies problems and suggests plans for successful resolution.

  • Assures compliance of staff to standards of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission and value statements of Marin General Hospital (CARES).

  • Organizes daily work schedule and coordinates with other staff members (daily stress testing registered nurse) to ensure maximum efficiency.

  • Supervises technical staff to assure safe and efficient daily performance of the department.

  • Proactively maintains a monthly schedule that reflects safe daily staffing levels while minimizing overtime and registry use.

  • Responds to staff shortages as required with minimum impact on services. Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to staff department.

  • Performs and assists Practice Administrator with performance evaluations.

  • Provides input via direct observations of technical staff performance throughout the year in order to complete performance evaluations in a timely manner.

  • Actively participates on orientation, in-service training and continuing education of technical personnel, maintains competency files.

  • Displays the positive traits and qualities required for a successful leader. Has the ability to thrive in an atmosphere of dynamic change while participating in a professional and proactive manner.

  • Takes initiative to create innovative programs and continuously strives to improve the department's services and organizational performance.

  • Organizes daily work schedule. Allows for appropriate time to prepare and complete tasks. Coordinates and assesses schedule with other staff members throughout the workday. Accurately develops the work schedule to ensure maximum departmental efficiency and clinical focus. Adapts the pace of work to accommodate patient needs. Demonstrates the ability to establish and implement treatment priorities. Exhibits the ability to coordinate simultaneous activities without affecting work quality.

  • Supports and empowers technical staff to embrace the mission and value statements of the organization. Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administration. Is organized, flexible and functions well under stressful conditions. Stays current with trends and developments in the field. Communicates administrative directives to technical staff and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions. Arranges staff training and education regarding clinical issues. Prepares reports for departmental Quality Assurance meetings in a timely manner.

  • Participates in educational activities, staff meetings and in-service programs. Participates in the development, implementation and modification of policies and procedures and departmental records. Educates the community regarding the field. Acts as department representative at facility committees as needed. Assists the Practice Administrator with special projects as needed and in accordance with needs of department. Identifies and evaluates own personal strengths and weaknesses. Demonstrates an awareness of personal competency and limitations; requests assistance in situations that exceed their scope of licensure and/or competence.

  • Assists Practice Administrator with monitoring of departmental productivity. Ensures billing is accurate and timely.

  • Advocates the department to physicians, patients, coworkers and community organizations. Understands the relationship of the department to other members of the healthcare team. Demonstrates an awareness of the overall operation of the facility in relation to total patient care. Maintains a work area that is clean and professional in appearance. Fosters a collaborative effort in regard to patient care.

  • Assists with planning and yearly need assessment for the departmental budget.

  • Participates in the selection of vendors for needed equipment and services when needed following Marin General Hospital policies on purchasing.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

  • Contributes to and actively participates in the quality assurance and improvement of CCM echocardiography lab.

  • Participates in review of department outcomes including clinical, patient satisfaction, and operational and outcomes.

  • Demonstrates financial awareness through responsible use of equipment and supplies.

  • Attends 80% staff meetings and trainings required by department and company
