Novant Health's Rowan Family Physicians is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician I!

Team member is responsible for performing all collection procedures. Team member is responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are followed. They will advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software as necessary.

What You'll Do

• Specimen Collection– Verifies that patient and specimen information is complete and correct; accurately and efficiently inputs patient and specimen information into the computer; organizes work and performs order entry of specimens received to meet established turnaround-times. Verifies patient identity and performs phlebotomy and processing services accurately and efficiently as needed.
• Documentation – Maintains required documentation for all lab procedures. Processes requisitions for testing.
• Education – Successfully completes educational activities to continually improve skills and assists consultants. Practices safety policies to maintain a safe working environment. Performs all duties to satisfy regulations in preparation for inspections. Assigned to work with staff on training as needed.
• Customer Support – Provides information and consultation to requestors. Recognizes and promotes interdependencies with other areas.
• Operations Management – Practices efficient use of supplies and materials.
• Strategic Planning – Participates in improvement of methods and processes.
• Teamwork and Communication – Work within a team to achieve patient and team goals. Share and initiate regular and professional communication with co-workers. Participates in regular staff meetings.
• Operational – Employee must possess sufficient motor skill and manual dexterity to obtain and manipulate specimens in a manner that does not endanger themselves and other when working with combative patients. Must be able to maneuver in patient rooms around patient to stabilize the patient’s arm and vein without causing serious injury to the patient and employee.
• Safety – follows and complies with all safety functions and guidelines including personal protective equipment, eyewash, fire extinguisher and other safety equipment.

What We're Looking For

  • Education : High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Experience : One year of relevant phlebotomy or venous access experience, preferred. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Phlebotomy (certification eligible) - ASCP, ASPT, AMT, NHA or other national accrediting agency approved by Laboratory Senior Leadership.
  • Additional Skills (required): In NHMG setting, performs waived and moderate testing that meets TJC, CLIA and COLA regulations. Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly.
