POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Neurosciences and Neurodiagnostics EEG Supervisor the Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technologist performs, monitors, and analyzes electroencephalogram (EEG) tests to record brain activity. Duties include educating and preparing patients for the procedure, applying electrodes to the scalp, operating EEG equipment, monitoring and maintaining patient safety.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :
High School Diploma/GED
Current CPR Certification
Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :
One year experience as EEG Technnologist
Meets ABRET Registered EEG Technologist testing requirements
150 EEGs completed
Completes competencies for routine EEG, continuous EEG, hyperventilation, photic stimulation and sleep deprivation testing, ambulatory EEG placements, transcranial Doppler, sEEG intraoperative placements, WADA testing, Long term monitoring / cEEG, Seizure response testing and archiving files as directed.
Ability to read, write and speak English
Bilingual (English/Spanish preferred)
Willingness to be crossed trained to other areas
Organizational skills is necessary
Good written and verbal communication skills required.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
Satisfactory completion of post-offer, pre-employment background investigation and drug test required.
Responsibilities:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist your assigned lead person, supervisor, charge nurse and/or Director with various administrative tasks to support department operations as directed.
Performs all EEG and neurodiagnostics lab testing to include routine EEG, ambulatory EEG, continuous EEG, transcranial dopplers, sEEG intraoperative placements, WADA testing.
Long-term monitoring/ ICU/cEEG
Performs EEG monitoring, identifies abnormalities, reports and documents findings.
Seizure response and testing
Daily assignments
Perform all tasks assigned
Working knowledge of department programs, Policy & Procedures
Keep records of appointments for EEG tests
Working knowledge of Order Entry System
CPR certified is required
Maintains equipment in good repair and clean at all times
Follows universal precautions
Sets up and operates EEG machine
Distributes patient reports to hospital
Maintains accurate billing record for departmental charges
Collects and compiles data and statistics for department
Orders supplies for department
Developing and maintaining positive interpersonal relations with other department personnel.
Other duties as assigned

B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
