Job Description This role focuses on providing high-quality phlebotomy services, including performing blood draws, accurately labeling and processing specimens, maintaining detailed records, and ensuring a safe, clean, and compliant clinical environment. The phlebotomist supports patients of all ages, clearly explains procedures, and plays a key role in delivering compassionate care to a diverse, primarily Spanish-speaking community while adhering to all regulatory and safety standards. Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner.
- Collect and store blood and other specimens according to established procedures and test requirements.
- Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.
- Label specimens accurately, ensuring all test information and patient identifiers are 100% correct.
- Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders.
- Place specimens in appropriate collection containers and store them at the required temperatures.
- Update and maintain patient information accurately in relevant systems or records.
- Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures as required to maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Interpret and follow physicians orders to ensure proper specimen collection and handling.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and compliance standards.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service to patients and colleagues.
- Support pediatric patients and their families with patience, empathy, and clear communication.
- Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of Nebraska.
- At least 2 years of experience working with pediatric patients.
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques, including use of straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Strong experience in specimen collection, labeling, and handling within a laboratory or medical setting.
- Ability to accurately label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders.
- Understanding of physicians orders and the ability to follow them precisely.
- Knowledge of and compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations related to specimen collection and laboratory safety.
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English to effectively communicate with primarily Spanish-speaking patients.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients of all ages.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to ensure accuracy and compliance in all aspects of specimen handling.
- Experience working in a healthcare or laboratory environment providing direct patient care.
- Interest in or aspiration to pursue a Bachelors degree in Health Sciences, with opportunities for educational advancement.
- Ability to work confidently with diverse patient populations and all age groups.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain medical procedures in clear, understandable terms.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and patient confidentiality.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Omaha, NE.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.60 - $24.60/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job
