Summary:
Surgical Assistants assist physicians in surgery and may perform specific significant surgical tasks under professional supervision. (Significant surgical tasks include, but are not limited to: opening and closing surgical sites, placing trocars, tourniquet, exposure of the surgical site, harvesting grafts, dissecting tissue, removing tissue, implanting devices, altering tissues, assisting in maintaining hemostasis, equipment and supplies, including monopolar, bipolar, harmonic scalpel, ultrasonic, medications, sponges, clamping, ligating, and cutting tissue, closing all wound layers (fascia, subcutaneous, and skin), inserting drainage tubes and selecting and applying wound dressing ). Surgical Assistants may, under professional supervision, perform specific significant tasks which include, but are not limited to, applying and removing splints/casts, placing Foley catheters, IVs, and administering local anesthesia, and other such procedures as requested and necessary.
Other information:
- EDUCATION : High school diploma or equivalent. Must have completed a surgical first assistant program and passed certification.
- EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE : Must have current knowledge of surgical principles, and ability to perform basic surgical technology duties.
- CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, BONDING : Must meet criteria for the National Surgical First Assistants Association exam and maintain current certification. Maintains current certification in BLS. Registered in the State of Arkansas as a Surgical Technician required.
- PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS : Must be capable of lifting in the stocking of supplies. Works in a clean air conditioned environment with exposure to infectious diseases and toxic chemicals, with safety measures provided.
This job will be authorized 80.00 hours bi-weekly.
