Central Sterile Processing Technician

Are you a student looking to gain hands-on experience in sterile processing while continuing your education? At UPMC Somerset, youll play a critical role in patient safety and surgical success. This position offers flexible scheduling to work around your school commitments and includes a rotating 24-hour weekend call requirement for added experience.

What Youll Do:
In this role, youll work under the guidance of experienced professionals and learn the essential skills needed for sterile processing. You will:

• Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and equipment.
• Prepare and assemble surgical trays following established listings for issue, storage, or further processing.
• Maintain a working knowledge of all decontamination and sterilization equipment and troubleshoot as needed.
• Monitor, read, and document sterilizer parameters to ensure proper function.
• Assess supplies for surgical procedures and set up case carts.
• Maintain inventory and ensure instruments and patient care equipment are properly cleaned and reassembled.
• Follow infection control and safety protocols at all times.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and demonstrate strong communication skills.
• Display awareness of cost containment and efficient work practices.
