Position Summary

Job Description

As a Temporary Histotechnologist, you will perform daily, routine, and specialized histology techniques and procedures. Additional responsibilities of the Histotechnologist include:

  • Preparing histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists
  • Staining tissue specimens with dyes or other chemicals to make cell details visible under microscopes
  • Cutting sections of tissues for microscopic examination using microtomes
  • Mounting tissue specimens on glass slides
  • Typing gross dictation if needed
  • Special Stains
  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Volume per day will fluctuate 200+ specimens per day between 3 histotechs

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Histotechnology or related Life Sciences/Health Sciences degree
  • 1-3 Years of experience working as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician in dermatopathology
  • Must have recent dermatopathology experience
  • Experience in embedding tissue, microtomy, H&E staining, labeling slides, filing slides, accessioning and grossing tissue
  • Must be a team player and be able to work in a fast paced/busy environment
  • Must be well-versed in computers and a quick learner

Desired/Not Required

  • ASCP NOT required but preferred. American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) preferably.
