General Statement of Duties

Transports and administers care to all patients as authorized and directed by the laws, rules and regulations of the State of Oregon, City of Dallas Standing Orders, City of Dallas Standard Operating Guidelines, Polk County, Oregon ASA plan and the City of Dallas Personnel Policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Obtains an accurate report and determines nature and extent of the illness or injury. Transports or makes appropriate referral.
  • Administers appropriate treatment to the patient on arrival at the scene and enroute to the receiving destination.
  • Receives report prior to transporting the patient. Collaborates with medical personnel as needed to provide appropriate patient care.
  • On arrival to receiving destination, reports to personnel assuming the care of the patient all pertinent information for continued continuity of care. If the destination is a private residence, ensures the patient is safe prior to departure.
  • Documents accurately and in a timely manner care given to the patient and all required documentation associated with the transport.
  • Maintains vehicles and equipment in a manner allowing for an immediate transport if necessary following the completion of each run.
  • Performs all duties associated with the Paramedic/EMT level of licensure. Must be proficient in the skills and procedures according to the level of certification.
  • Must maintain same or higher level of EMT licensure as date of hire.
  • Safely operates assigned emergency vehicles in the course of duties.
  • Performs required vehicle, equipment, and ALS drug inspections at the beginning of each shift.
  • Maintains work areas/properties in a safe, clean and neat manner.
  • Keeps a neat appearance at work when conditions allow and dresses according to policies.
  • Assists other emergency services and city departments as requested.
  • At emergency scenes, follows directives from the Incident Commander or Company Officers.
  • Capable of directing emergency service workers to provide and complete emergency medical tasks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, and NIMS. Practices skill in operation of equipment and apparatus.
  • Ability to act effectively in emergency situations; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, other agencies and the general public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Oregon State licensure as a paramedic.
  • Completed emergency driving course.
  • Associate degree in emergency services or related field. Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good standing with the Oregon Human Services Department, EMS and Trauma Division, as a Paramedic/EMT.
Special Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years or older;
  • Must possess and maintain Oregon Paramedic license. Must remain in good standing with the Oregon Health Authority EMS Division.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid Oregon driver license without record of suspension or revocation in any State;
  • Must have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history within the past seven years;
  • Must be able to read and write the English language;
  • Must have ability to meet department's physical fitness standards, psychological exam, and medical physical;
  • Must reside within 30 minutes response time of the Dallas urban area due to possibility of recall for off-shift duties;
  • Must be of good moral character and of temperate and industrious habits
