Job Summary

Performs those duties, under policies and procedures approved by the Laboratory Director designees, and laboratory management that are exempt from State of Tennessee laboratory personnel licensing laws. Includes properly process, cut, stain, and assess tissue specimens for MOHS surgeon review. Responsible for daily maintenance of two cryostats and an automatic stainer. Prepares orders for laboratory reagents and consumable supplies. Maintains and completes and accurate laboratory records according to company SOPs. Understand and apply CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) laboratory regulations. Maintains accreditation by preparing for and managing CLIA inspections.

  • Properly process, cut, stain, and assess tissue specimens for Mohs surgeon review.

  • Coordinates assigned duties to achieve maximum productivity.

  • Follows all patient identification procedures.

  • Demonstrates the flexibility to adjust fluctuations in workload.

  • Assists in the division of workload to achieve maximum productivity.

  • Has complete understanding of procedures and policies pertaining to assigned work.

  • Performs duties in an independent manner with limited supervision. Endeavors to continually improve job skills.

  • Completes duties and uses time between jobs to departments advantage; assisting others, clerical, supply inventory, etc. Consistently combines judgment skills to assess situations, considers alternatives and chooses appropriate course of action.

  • Determine the timing and correlation of laboratory specimens. Works with nursing or other ordering providers in determine the timing and correlation of laboratory specimens.

  • Accurately transcribes and/or accession laboratory specimens. Initiates pre-testing protocols. Performs waived testing. Uses all instruments / equipment in manner consistent with its intended function.

  • Has sufficient knowledge of instruments / equipment to perform routine maintenance and address error codes. Performs all calibration functions.

  • Performs all quality control functions. Performs maintenance of cryostats and automatic stainer.

  • Performs clerical office duties. Performs inventory management. Performs phone duty.

  • Other duties: Participates in the orientation of new employees. Participates in the instruction and evaluation of laboratory students. Willingly participates in special studies and projects.

  • Maintain Complete and accurate laboratory records according to company SOPs.

  • Understands and apply CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) laboratory regulations.

  • Maintain accreditation by preparing for and managing CLIA inspections.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - High School diploma or equivalent OR post-high school diploma / highest degree earned. Some formal training in their laboratory assignment preferred.

  • Experience - experience as a laboratory Mohs technician at a medical setting preferred.
