Phlebotomist Job Description This role offers a primarily outpatient phlebotomy opportunity with some inpatient work for those who are skilled and comfortable in that setting. You will perform blood draws on patients of all ages, from pediatric to geriatric, while delivering accurate, safe, and compassionate care in a fast-paced hospital and laboratory environment. Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and other blood collection procedures on patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations, in both outpatient and, when qualified, inpatient settings. Collect blood specimens following established protocols to ensure patient safety, specimen integrity, and accurate laboratory results. Label, handle, and process blood samples according to laboratory standards and procedures. Verify patient identity and obtain required patient information prior to specimen collection, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. Use appropriate medical terminology and documentation practices when recording patient and specimen information. Enter patient, specimen, and test order information accurately into data entry and laboratory information systems. Provide courteous, professional customer service to patients, families, and healthcare staff during all interactions. Collaborate with senior internal employees and other healthcare professionals to support efficient laboratory and patient care operations. Demonstrate reliability by consistently reporting on time for scheduled shifts and completing assigned tasks. Apply training effectively by following instructions, retaining new information, and adhering to departmental procedures and quality standards. Assist with general laboratory and collection area tasks as needed to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Maintain compliance with all healthcare, laboratory, and patient safety protocols during blood draws and specimen handling. Essential Skills Proficiency in phlebotomy and venipuncture techniques for patients across all age groups, including pediatric and geriatric populations. Demonstrated experience performing blood draws and blood collection in a clinical or healthcare setting. Ability to handle specimen collection, labeling, and processing in accordance with laboratory standards. Strong data entry skills with attention to detail for accurate patient and specimen information entry. Effective customer service skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare staff in a professional and compassionate manner. Familiarity with medical terminology related to laboratory tests, patient information, and healthcare documentation. Availability to work any day of the week on designated shifts, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.
