Phlebotomist I Location: 3500 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD Duration: 3-Month Contract Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Work Type: Onsite Position Summary: The Phlebotomist I will support daily operations within a Patient Service Center (PSC), including blood collection, specimen processing, and patient interaction. This role requires strong foundational phlebotomy skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Background / Context: Coverage for a maternity leave at a Patient Service Center Potential for extension or permanent conversion based on performance Key Responsibilities: Perform blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifugation, and processing Collect and store specimens according to established procedures Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures clearly to patients Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles Review and verify physician orders and laboratory requisitions Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens for transport Ensure specimen integrity by following handling and temperature protocols Verify requisitions and labels for accuracy Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures Update patient information as needed Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations Attend required department trainings Answer phone calls and assist with lab-related inquiries Qualifications & Experience: High School Diploma or GED Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a lab or hospital setting Valid Phlebotomy certification (if required by the state) Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) Strong communication and patient interaction skills Ability to perform blood draws independently, including hard sticks Work Environment & Physical Demands: Standing for most of the shift with a 30-minute lunch break Medium-sized Patient Service Center Team-based environment Two weeks of training required First week of orientation/training in Chantilly, VA Additional Information: Full-time: 40 hours/week Daily patient volume: 50-80 patients (all age groups) Fast-paced, high-volume site Vaccinations/Tests Required: Varicella MMR TB Color Vision Test Hepatitis B offered (can be declined)
