Responsibilities
- Travel to nursing homes in the Johnson City, TN area to perform phlebotomy services for residents.
- Report to and coordinate daily activities from the designated patient service center home base.
- Perform between 30-50 venipuncture procedures per day, depending on patient volume and scheduling.
- Utilize 25, 23, and 21 gauge needles, including both butterfly and straight needle techniques, as appropriate for each patient.
- Collect blood samples accurately and safely, following established phlebotomy protocols and infection control procedures.
- Provide patient-centered care with a calm and respectful approach, especially when working with geriatric patients.
- Label, handle, and prepare specimens correctly to ensure proper processing and transport.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both office and nursing home settings.
- Communicate effectively with nursing home staff and the home base team to coordinate patient schedules and resolve issues.
- Document procedures and patient interactions accurately, following all applicable policies and guidelines.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated phlebotomy experience with the ability to perform 15 to 35 blood draws per day.
- Proficiency with 25, 23, and 21 gauge needles, including butterfly and straight stick techniques.
- Ability to work independently while traveling between nursing home locations.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate specimen collection, labeling, and handling.
- Effective communication skills to interact professionally with patients and healthcare staff.
- Comfort working with geriatric patients and adapting techniques to meet their needs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Geriatric experience preferred, especially in long-term care or nursing home environments.
- Phlebotomy certification is not required but may be beneficial.
- Experience working in office or clinical settings is advantageous.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize multiple patient visits in a day.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Johnson City, TN.
