Job Summary

The Cardiology Tech 3 performs all EKG and other tests to help physicians deliver patient care. They also instruct, train, and mentor junior staff. Records electromotive variations in heart muscle action using an electrocardiograph machine to provide data for diagnosing heart ailments.

Essential Functions of the Role

  • Participates in the training of junior staff to help their developmental efforts.
  • Instructs and trains new people in the proper use of equipment and testing protocols in a professional way.
  • Mentors junior techs in the proper procedures of arrhythmia recognition to ensure their use of safe testing methods.
  • Completes all necessary steps to get and process electrocardiograms.
  • Explains test procedures as needed to prepare patients for the process and to give them with the necessary instructions.
  • Review the medical record and documentation before each stress test to ensure department standards for safety and appropriate procedures are met.
  • Utilizes all equipment associated with EKG procedures properly and records the necessary information accurately to obtain high quality results.
  • Monitors vital signs and records EKG data during the study to ensure patient safety. Recognizes life-threatening arrhythmias and notifies the physician of abnormal results.
  • Performs Signal Average EKGs.
  • Performs Holter monitor hookup using established policy. Also hooks up Event recorders and TTM's. Edits data for interpretation by a physician.
  • Exclusively scans Holter monitor tapes and assembles report for physician to read.
  • Performs Treadmill Stress Tests and monitors patient's vital signs to ensure patient safety. Performs EECP treatments.
  • Performs Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring.
  • Takes call to ensure coverage for illness and emergency stress tests during nights and weekends.
  • Performs basic functions on MUSE EKG database system.
  • Downloads EKGs accurately for proper storage and retrieval. Performs retrievals, editing, and backups as necessary to maintain data integrity.
  • Prints record and attaches proper documentation to tracing for all billing transactions.
  • Performs retrieval and report distribution tasks quickly and efficiently.
  • Inputs patient demographic and test data into computerized EKG machine accurately and in a timely way.
  • Performs regular data backup and routine problem solving on the system.
  • Participates as part of diagnostic team, when working with other departments, to give ancillary cardiac testing services.
  • Fulfills continuing education and/or certification requirements to maintain required qualifications.
  • Takes responsibility to know and complete professional and technical requirements and provides necessary documentation on such requirements.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area, including monitoring supplies.
  • Maintain equipment by replenishing paper and reporting problems promptly.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • EXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience

Cert Cardiographic Tech (CCT)

Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
