Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT/CLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT/CLT)

Location: Sheridan, MI

Compensation: Competitive hourly pay based on experience and certification, with a general starting range of $23–$31/hour. Higher rates may be considered for candidates with strong generalist experience, blood bank competency, or PRN availability for critical coverage.

Position Summary

The Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician performs a wide range of laboratory tests used to diagnose, treat, and prevent disease. This generalist role supports multiple disciplines and plays a critical role in ensuring accurate, timely results while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

What You Will Do

Perform laboratory testing across core areas including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, and blood bank

Collect and process specimens, including routine phlebotomy

Analyze, validate, and report results accurately and within turnaround time standards

Communicate critical results and testing updates to providers and care teams

Perform quality control, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting

Ensure compliance with all safety, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements

Support workflow adjustments based on STAT testing and volume changes

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing training

Mentor or support training of new staff as needed

What We Are Looking For

Associate’s degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field

Certification (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent) within 12 months of hire

Strong attention to detail and analytical skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Experience

Blood bank and microbiology experience

Experience in chemistry and hematology

Prior clinical laboratory experience

QualificationsEducation:

Associate’s degree or higher in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or Clinical Laboratory Science program and/or a Bachelor’s degree or higher in another related science (chemistry, hematology, biology, immunology, etc.).

Experience:

Three months of documented, full-time experience in blood banking and microbiology (Required*)

*Due to limited testing performed in-house, we are unable to provide the required experience in these areas which are necessary for individuals to apply for certification exams following a 6-month internship.

Three months of documented, full-time experience in chemistry and hematology (Preferred)

At least one year of previous clinical laboratory experience (Preferred)

License/Certifications:

Must be registered in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, AMT or equivalent) within 12 months of hire.

Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and interpret results

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task
