Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Sterile Processing Technician to join our Surgical Services team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the daily operations and activities within the Sterile Processing and Supply Department under the supervision of the Surgical Services Director.

This role requires strong knowledge of sterile processing equipment, surgical instrumentation, infection prevention practices, and sterilization procedures to ensure the safe and efficient preparation of surgical instruments and supplies.

Licensure & Certifications
  • Active CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification required
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS/CPR certification required upon hire
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain sterile processing equipment including washers, autoclaves, and sterilization devices
  • Clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and procedural trays
  • Prepare and process instrumentation for operating rooms and outlying offices
  • Ensure all instruments are functioning properly before tray assembly
  • Identify damaged or malfunctioning instruments and report concerns to the supervisor promptly
  • Verify and accurately document missing instruments according to standard operating procedures
  • Perform decontamination and sterilization processes following infection control guidelines
  • Record sterilizer testing results and maintain accurate sterilization documentation
  • Operate and maintain steam autoclaves while keeping detailed records of:
    • Sterilization loads completed
    • Contents of loads
    • Maintenance procedures performed
  • Maintain inventory and organization of sterile supplies and instruments
  • Communicate effectively with operating room personnel, physicians, and other healthcare staff
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Follow departmental policies, safety regulations, and infection prevention standards
  • Recommend process improvements to management when appropriate
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and commitment to high-quality patient care support
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
