Student - Emergency Medical Technician

Under direction of the Event Manager, provides basic to intermediate-level emergency rescue and care to the ill and injured, to include assessment of illness and/or injury, management of illness/injury, preparation for transport, transfer of information, and patient care. Before, during, and after events as scheduled and directed by the Event Manager, the EMT-1 responds to emergency calls to provide immediate and noninvasive treatment and care during emergency illnesses and injuries. Determines a patient's immediate medical condition. If needed, coordinates care with paramedics and police. Documents the care the patient received at the scene and communicates this information to Paramedics and police. Creates accident reports of any and every occurrence of injury or illness. Organizes, cleans, and stocks all UCCU Center medical supplies. Keeps all equipment in a state of complete readiness for excellent emergency response. Assists the Event Manager and UCCU Center team before, during, and after events to identify potential hazards. Assists with Water and ice for Athletic events and other similar duties as assigned. Must be current UVU student. High school diploma or GED and three years of experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to three years. Technical or vocational degree may substitute for experience. Preferred Qualifications At least 1 year of experience in the field of pre-hospital EMS. Professional License or Certifications EMT certification. (Provide a copy with application materials.) Must be an active member of the UVU Emergency Response Team (ERT) and must have successfully completed the ERT onboard packet and test scenarios Current Utah EMT license. Current AHA BLS or equivalent CPR & AED certification. Must provide State license number, license level (i.e. EMT, AEMT, Paramedic), and BLS expiration date. Must continue to attend ERT trainings unless other arrangements are made with the service director. Knowledge of emergency medical procedures. Knowledge of on-site emergency medical protocol and procedures. Basic understanding of stress response and methods to ensure personal well-being. Understanding of body substance isolation. Knowledge of bio-hazard precautions. Knowledge of medical supplies, equipment and terminology. Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Skills in reassuring patients and bystanders by working in a confident, efficient manner. Ability to complete a rapid assessment/triage of patients. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to use various types of medical diagnostic equipment. Ability to perform standardized emergency patient care activities within established protocol. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
