Sterile Processing Technician Certified

Responsible for providing clean, properly packaged, sterile instruments and supplies to meet individual customer needs.

• Educion: High School Diploma or GED, required.
• Experience: One year of experience in a hospital Sterile Reprocessing Department, preferred.
• Licensure/Certificion: Sterile Reprocessing Tech certificion, required. CBSPD, CRCST or CSPDT, required.
• Additional Skills (required): Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validion and competency testing. Demonstres knowledge of instrumention and sterile/aseptic technique. Ability to read and comprehend written instructions to assemble instrument sets and trays. Ability to learn and understand medical terminology. Maintains Sterile Processing Technician certificion.

Assessment

Reviews surgical schedule to identify pient/procedure needs.
Monitors instrument and reprocessing equipment functions using mechanical, chemical, and biological monitors.

Planning

Collabores with Clinical Coordinors, Inventory Control Specialist and OR Desk Coordinor to ensure availability of instruments.
Monitors progress of daily surgical schedule to identify additional pient/procedure needs.
Prioritizes and organizes work based on customer needs.

Processing

Utilizes PPE to minimize exposure to hazardous merials and contamined waste.
Disassembles all complex instrumention.
Sorts for automed or hand cleaning all contamined instruments genered from the opering room, other areas of the hospital and Novant Medical Groups.
Cleans all contamined instruments following manufacturer's recommendions and department standards.
Inspects all instruments for functionality and damage.
Learns names of all instruments.
Reassembles all instrument sets and other instruments utilizing count sheets and/or lists.
Packages all items to be sterilized according to department standards and the method of sterilizion.
Sterilizes all reusable instruments following manufacturer's recommendions and department standards.
Maintains, operes and monitors all reprocessing equipment according to manufacturer's recommendions and department standards.
Completes and maintains records of all sterilizer functions according to departmental standards.
Cleans equipment using manufacturer's instructions for use throughout the medical center.

Coordinion

Utilizes resources judiciously and in a cost-effective manner.
Assists in the inventory and maintenance of instruments and supplies.
Participes in process improvement.
Participes in the oriention of new personnel.

Communicion

Keeps co-workers and intra-op staff informed of any updes/issues.
Collabores with the leadership team and UCIC to identify and resolve unit issues.
