Collects blood specimens from patient and performs established clinical tests and procedures. Interprets test results. Process other specimens delivered to the laboratory. Performs instrument and preventive maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtain blood specimens from patients in compliance with established procedures.
Perform tests and procedures ordered by physicians.
Follow established policies and procedures for routine lab testing, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, blood bank, or serology tests or other procedures.
Follow quality control policy and procedures for all tests performed.
Review accuracy of results before reporting.
Verify validity by evaluation of quality control data, previous tests, and duplicate testing.
Report critical values according to policy and procedure.
Report equipment or instrument issues to department manager.
Perform preventative maintenance and repair as directed.
Recommend purchase of lab supplies to achieve adequate stock for efficient operation.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS:
Maintain confidentiality on a daily basis.
Work well with other employees.
Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
Follow standard precautions when providing direct patient care or handling potentially infectious materials.

Qualifications
EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of medical technology or related field required.
EXPERIENCE: One year experience working in a medical laboratory preferred.
PERSONAL JOB-RELATED SKILLS: Knowledge of medical equipment and their processes and procedures. Effective oral and written communication skills. Familiar with operating computers and ability to utilize computer systems.
LICENSURE, REGISTRY, CERTIFICATIONS: Registered Medical Technician or equivalent required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties of position require clear understandable speech and the ability to hear. Also required is intermittent walking, sitting, and standing. Some bending, stooping, and reaching is required with the lifting of items on occasion up to 22 pounds. The ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
