A registered polysomnographic technologist works under the general supervision of the department manager/lead tech to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. The registered polysomnographic technologist is credentialed in sleep technology by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).

- Perform polysomnography studies in accordance with departmental standards (baseline, split-night, PAP titration, MSLT, MWT)
- Demonstrate knowledge of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, insomnia, parasomnias, seizures, and related conditions
- Administer oxygen and CPAP/BiPAP therapy per physician orders; educate patients on proper use and care
- Prepare detailed reports of study findings, including treatment recommendations when applicable
- Maintain, clean, calibrate, and troubleshoot sleep lab equipment
- Collect and review patient medical history and medications to ensure appropriate testing
- Perform neurodiagnostic and sleep disorder testing for adolescent and adult patients
- Educate patients and families on procedures, results, and follow-up care
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited Polysomnographic, Respiratory Therapy, or Electroneurodiagnostic program required
Experience:
- Six months experience in Sleep Disorders Center preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist
- Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
OR
Sleep Disorder Specialist
National Board for Respiratory Therapy Care
State licensure in Polysomnographic Technology or Respiratory Care required where applicable
Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire
