Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia required. Associate of Applied Science or Associate of Science degree in an Emergency Services and/or Emergency Management-related field. Minimum three (3) years of experience functioning as a field paramedic in a high-volume system. Experience in teaching college-level classes in traditional classroom and distance education formats is preferred.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:Conducts specialized Paramedicine training for members of the Fire-EMS Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Participates in developing, evaluating, and modifying curriculum as appropriate to meet professional and accreditation standards.
- Engages in teaching activities according to classroom, laboratory, and field expertise.
- Effectively employs teaching and learning strategies.
- Modifies instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students needs.
- Develops and uses evaluation methods that fairly measure student progress toward outcomes.
- Evaluate and expeditiously return student work to promote maximum learning.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students regularly and provides progress reports as required.
- Maintains accurate records of student progress.
- Maintains regular office hours to ensure accessibility to students.
- Utilizes a cloud-based learning management system (LMS) for instructional support and grading.
- Fosters and maintains an effective working relationship with students, colleagues, and supervisors
- Counsels students and applies disciplinary actions as needed in coordination with the program and medical directors.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Earned Associate of Applied Science or Associate of Science degree in an Emergency Services and/or Emergency Management-related field.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience functioning as a field paramedic in a high-volume system.
- Experience in teaching college-level classes in traditional classroom and distance education formats is preferred.
- Experience with CAAHEP accreditation is highly desirable.
- Ability to communicate and facilitate learning effectively and work collaboratively. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, class assignments, and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to students and respond to questions from individuals and groups of students.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Certification as a Nationally Registered Paramedic.
- Virginia Paramedic certification, or must obtain reciprocity within 3 months of hire. Virginia EMS Education Coordinator credentials.
- American Heart Association Instructor status in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
- NAEMT instructor status in at least one (1) discipline.
- Preferred: NAEMSE Instructor I and II certifications.
