Phlebotomist

Job Description

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist with various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, updating patient information, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
  • Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
  • Decontaminate and update patient information as necessary.
  • Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Understand and follow physicians' orders precisely.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Check test requisitions or computer labels for accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.
  • Ensure specimens are placed in appropriate collection containers or tubes.
  • Adhere to protocol for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.

Work Environment

The position is located at the Sterling PSC with typical hours from 7:AM to 5 PM Mon-Fri

Every other Saturday might be required, a schedule would be sent out to cover from 7AM to 11AM.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.50/hr.

Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job
classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be
