Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist is to assist with performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and recommending improvements for workflow processes.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label and centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate as necessary.
- Update patient information and collect specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match the script with 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
- Place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes, label accurately, and follow specific procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.
Essential Skills
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
- High School Diploma or GED with 2 years of experience.
- Phlebotomist experience of 2 plus years.
- Proficiency in handling pediatric and geriatric patients.
- Experience in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with pediatric and geriatric patient care is preferred.
- Proficiency in specimen collection techniques.
Work Environment
This position requires working in a high-volume Patient Service Center (PSC). The work schedule is Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM to 7 PM, and the rest of the week from 8 AM to 5 PM. If candidates cannot work the Tuesday and Thursday hours, please inform us.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
