Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

The primary role of the Phlebotomist is to assist with performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and recommending improvements for workflow processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label and centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate as necessary.
  • Update patient information and collect specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match the script with 100% accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
  • Place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes, label accurately, and follow specific procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
  • High School Diploma or GED with 2 years of experience.
  • Phlebotomist experience of 2 plus years.
  • Proficiency in handling pediatric and geriatric patients.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with pediatric and geriatric patient care is preferred.
  • Proficiency in specimen collection techniques.

Work Environment

This position requires working in a high-volume Patient Service Center (PSC). The work schedule is Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM to 7 PM, and the rest of the week from 8 AM to 5 PM. If candidates cannot work the Tuesday and Thursday hours, please inform us.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
