Job Description:

SCOPE : The Lead Medical Laboratory Technician/Lead Medical Technologist is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring accurate and timely test results, and maintaining compliance with industry regulations. This role involves supervising laboratory staff, troubleshooting technical issues, and optimizing workflow to enhance efficiency and quality in diagnostic testing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of laboratory personnel.
Perform and oversee complex laboratory tests and procedures with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, including CLIA, CAP, and OSHA standards.
Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, troubleshooting any technical issues.
Train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff to ensure competency and professional growth.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enhance laboratory efficiency and accuracy.
Monitor quality control measures, addressing discrepancies and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
Manage laboratory inventory, ensuring the availability of necessary reagents and supplies.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
Maintain accurate documentation of laboratory activities, test results, and compliance reports.
Participate in internal and external audits to ensure laboratory excellence and accreditation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Associate or Bachelors degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field.

Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP, AMT, or equivalent.

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with leadership experience preferred.

Strong knowledge of laboratory testing techniques, instrumentation, and regulatory compliance.

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.

Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail.
