Performs clinical tests and procedures in one or more functional sections of the laboratory. Maintains records of performance as defined by the Laboratorys administrative and sectional standard operating procedures. Performs and records QC on Equipment as trained. Be aware of and follow CAP, CLIA, HIPAA, and DNV guidelines and standards.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates technical and operational expertise
  • Interprets quality control results and instrument function
  • Completes scheduled preventive maintenance duties
  • Provides assistance and guidance involving repairs, validations, and function checks
  • Organizes, prioritizes, executes and interprets workload. Actively assists coworkers with interpretations and troubleshooting and possible follow-up corrective action
  • Participates in quality assurance (QA). Attends and participates in QA laboratory meetings as requested.
  • Resource management: Assists and monitors necessary supplies and kit availability for patient testing. Responsible for following manufacturers recommended instructions for utilizing testing material and kits. Assists with reagent orders from vendors.
  • Technical and teaching assistance: Provides operational training for coworkers involving manual, automated, and organizational skills for patient testing. Provides knowledge acquired thru experience and training to assist new hires and current coworkers
  • Be available and help Phlebotomy services draw blood from patients in the Out-Patient area located in the laboratory.
  • Work weekend shifts on a normal rotation
  • Practices good communication skills with internal and external customers.a. Practices FOCUS Values and principles with all customersb. Communicates hand-off details to coworkers at shift changec. Maintains composure and professionalism involving conflicts with internal and

external customers.

  • Unusual conditions/conflictsa. Organizes and adapts to changes in workflow due to instrumentation or computer downtimesb. Provides solutions and technical support to aid in delivery of patient care
  • Assures patient care in unusual conditions/conflicts is not compromised

Nonessential Functions:

Nonessential functions are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that are not critical to the performance of the job.

  • General cleaning duties, wiping counters, dusting, reorganization of spaces
  • Distributing and stocking supplies
  • Filing paperwork and reports

Development & Patient Education

  • Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance the medical laboratory practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
  • Assess departmental needs and communicate possible needs to the Supervisor. Participates in process improvement projects.
  • Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of accredited MLT Program
  • Will train a graduate of the school
  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Microsoft Office basic computer skills.
  • Customer/patient focused.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
  • Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities. May drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle.
