Department's Website:Summary of Job Duties:The Medical Laboratory Scientist I in Transfusion Services performs routine and specialized laboratory testing related to blood banking and transfusion medicine. This role ensures the accurate identification, compatibility, and preparation of blood products for transfusion.Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences OR an approved ASCP discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's). ASCP or another accrediting agency certified or eligible (Certification must be obtained within one year of employment).

Responsibilities:

Provide direct patient care by supplying the patient with appropriate blood components

Perform ABO/Rh, IAT, DAT, antibody identification, crossmatching units of blood and running theautomated ABO/RH, IAT equipment

Perform daily reagent QC and equipment preventive maintenance

Issue blood and blood components to the floors

Understand the importance of massive trauma and to issue blood and blood components as set forth in the Massive Transfusion Protocol
