Overview:

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a lab tech to work full time in the Clinical Lab.

POSITION TITLE AND DUTIES: Laboratory Technologist (Multiple Openings) - Responsible for performing complex medical laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease and calibrating and maintaining testing equipment, instruments, and tools. Duties include conducting chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood, urine, or spinal fluid, to determine the presence of normal or abnormal components; entering data from analysis of medical tests and clinical results into appropriate databases; analyzing laboratory findings and monitoring quality assurance to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results; identifying questionable results and escalating critical values to licensed care giver; troubleshooting instrumentation and resolving issues when they arise; utilizing and maintaining daily temperature and bench cleaning logs; and providing training to other medical laboratory workers.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: (1) Bachelors degree in medical laboratory science, biology, or a closely related field. Employer will accept foreign equivalent degrees. (2) Certification or eligibility for certification as Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT). (3) 36 hours per week. Work schedule is 11pm to 7:30am Monday through Friday, as well as every other weekend and rotating holidays. (4) Successful completion of drug test and criminal background check.

Sentara Obici Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility located in Suffolk, Virginia. This 172-bed, full-service hospital continues a legacy of providing residents of Western Tidewater with high-quality, patient-centered care. In June 2010, Sentara Obici opened a new three-story, 63,480 square-foot wing, which includes all private beds serving orthopedic, medical and surgical patients and increased the hospitals bed capacity.
