JOB PURPOSE: Provides information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analysis.
The primary goal of the El Rio Health Medical Laboratory Scientist is to support El Rio's Mission of providing comprehensive, quality health care that is affordable and accessible to all who may have healthcare needs, by successfully performing the primary essential functions.

Essential Job Functions:
- Provides accurate laboratory results for patient's diagnosis of diseases in support of provider's practice.
- Ensures prescribed laboratory quality assurance standards according to all accreditation agencies.
- Performs Medical Laboratory Scientist functions such as: Urinalysis, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Serology, Immunology, Microbiology, and Blood Banking.
- Provides prompt and quality results for treatment, disease prevention with patients.
- Utilizes laboratory instruments, equipment, and computers to perform laboratory procedures with proficiency.
- Treats patients with respect and observes the confidentiality of laboratory results and patient records.
- Provides a work environment safe and free from hazards; immediately addresses or informs management of safety issues or potential hazards; adheres to Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Participates in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
- Performs phlebotomy as needed and assists in the collection of specimens based on specific requirements.
- Reports monthly evaluation of quality control to selected companies for peer and methodology comparison.
- Maintains patient results, quality control, calibrations, and instrument maintenance logs.
- Performs proficiency testing, resulting, reporting, and submission to College of American Pathologists.
- Maintains exceptional level of customer service by addressing and resolving complaints.
- Provides excellent service to internal and external customers, employees and patients.
- Demonstrates and models El Rio Behavioral Standards in all interactions with patients, co-workers, and visitors.
- Provides exceptional service to patients and customers in the performance of responsibility. Acts as a conduit of information for providers, and other departments.
- Contributes to team effort; and complies with all facility policies and procedures, including but not limited to those addressing HIPAA and Compliance and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's of Science in Medical Technology, Microbiology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Completion of a one year Medical Technology (MT) training internship in an American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) recognized program or other recognized (MT) program.
- Three (3) years' experience in a fast-paced healthcare laboratory setting.
If applicable, equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, and must be directly related to the functions and responsibilities of the job.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:
- Active and unencumbered Medical Technologist Certification - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or California National Credentialing Agency (NCA) Certificate; or American Medical Technologists (AMT) Certificate.
- Employees in this position are required to have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday. If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver's license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.
Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities:
- Master's of Science in Medical Technology, Microbiology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Five (5) years' experience in a fast-paced healthcare laboratory setting.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish with the ability to speak, read and write in both languages.

El Rio Health requires all employees to have a Level One Fingerprint Clearance card. A.R.S. 36.425.03. If the prospective employee does not possess this prior to hire, fingerprint application must be completed within 7 days post hire. Level One (1) Non-IVP Fingerprint Clearance card must be received within 30 days after applying for the fingerprint card.

All employees are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and follow up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal and State regulations for alcohol and controlled substance testing.
