A) The OB/OR Surgical Technologist is responsible for supplying the operating room, with the proper supplies, equipment, and instrumentation that's needed for specific surgery, i.e., Cesarean Sections, D & E, D & C, Laparoscopic tubal ligations. During the procedure the primary responsibilities of the technologist is to maintain the sterility of the surgical field, to anticipate the needs of the surgeons, passing instruments in a timely fashion. Under direct supervision the technologist may be asked to perform the following duties such as, but not limited to.... Sponge or suction, hold retractors or instrument placed by the surgeons, applies electocautery to clamps on bleeders, irrigation to the operative sight, cuts suture material, connects drains to the suction apparatus, applies dressings to the wound. Once the procedure is completed it is the responsibility of the technologist to care for the instrumentation, equipment and prepare for the following case.B) The OB/OR Surgical Technologist is responsible for supplying the Labor, Delivery, Recover (LDR), and Antepartum unit with the proper supplies, equipment, and instrumentation that's needed for a vaginal delivery and Antepartum patient's. When available the OB/OR Surgical Technologist will assist with deliveries under direct supervision the technologist may be asked to, but not limited to provide assistance to the L&D Nurse and OB Physician during delivery, such as filling in delivery information/statistics on the L&D record, providing assistance with vacuum deliveries, positioning patient for pushing and delivery, hold retractors or instrument placed by the physician, obtain extra needed supplies, fill out baby bands, obtain security sensor for baby. Once the procedure is completed it is the responsibility of the technologist to assist with cleaning and repositioning of patient, care for the instrumentation, equipment and prepare for the following delivery. D) The Unit Clerk responsibilities include performing clerical duties, acts as unit receptionist, coordinates unit/patient schedules and activities, proper use of computer and telephone and maintains an orderly and efficient nurses station. The Unit Clerk will interface with all guests, visitors, families and patients arriving or calling the nursing units. The incumbent provides directions and information as well as making appropriate referrals. This position is a key position because this incumbent is often the first contact for anyone who is arriving on or calling the nursing units.Nature and Scope:The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the age of the neonatal, adolescent and adult patient population and meet the standards of quality as measured by the department age specific competency standards.
