Performs technical interpretations of routine and intermediate level procedures by both hand and computer analysis. Coordinates and organizes supplies, equipment and instruments needed for Sleep Lab procedures. Monitors, records and communicates as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. Position Responsibilities: The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist performs polysomnography (PSG) for the diagnosis and treatment of sleep/arousal disorders, including the management of CPAP/BIPAP/O2 titration for obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing disorders. The technologist uses specialized equipment to record, monitor, and analyze various physiological parameters in sleep. The Registered Technologist is able to recognize and have appropriate response to critical events such as cardiac arrhythmias, seizure disorders, and other medical emergencies. The Registered Technologist is trained in and performs analysis and scoring of PSG recordings, including preparation of detailed reports and data management. The Registered Technologist has the ability to train other personnel in all aspects of polysomnography. Performs direct patient care with ability to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, as well as provide patient education and training on sleep/arousal disorders. Department Specific Criteria: Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the Competency Checklists. Meets mutually agreed upon performance goals/objectives established annually as listed on the Performance Management Plan, including hospital patient safety initiatives. Qualifications: High school diploma/GED required. Successful completion of a formal sleep training program or equivalent training required. BRPT certification (RPSGT) required.
