What are the Major Duties of this Position?As the Medical Technician, the incumbent is tasked with providing a wide range of diagnostic laboratory services to meet the needs of the patients assigned to the care and custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP).Performs complex and specialized laboratory analysis in all sections of the clinical laboratory to include: Specimen Collection, Specimen Processing, Serology, Urinalysis (macro and microscopic), chemistry -automated, Coagulation, Hematology, and serology waived testing, and specimen processing and shipping.Performs appropriate preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Calibrates and/or standardizeslaboratory equipment and instrumentation. Troubleshoots malfunctions on laboratory equipment and instrumentation and makes repairs or identifies the need for external repair services. Maintains records on daily laboratory analysis, preventive maintenance and quality control.Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
