Job Title: GI TECHNICIAN ENDOSCOPY CLINIC

Description:
Under immediate to general supervision, provides technical assistance in the capacity of a GI technician in an operating or procedure room, performing endoscopic procedures. Prepares sterile field by the opening of instruments and supplies utilizing sterile technique. Performs hand washing prior to the patient entering the room on all procedures. Assists in preparing operative field by assisting the physician in draping the patient. Preserves and ensures correct identification of biopsy specimens for laboratory analysis. Obtains special equipment such as electrosurgical machines and diagnostic lights and ensures that they are in working order. Manipulates such instruments to aid in the efficiency of the endoscopist and avoid hazard to patient. Observes progress of endoscopy and provides additional instruments, supplies or other items as needed. Recognizes and corrects breaks in sterile technique. Cleans or sterilizes contaminated instruments, equipment and supplies; cleans procedure room areas; disposes of soiled linen. Assists in the training of GI technicians. Performs related work as required. Job Requirements: Graduation from an accredited school/program for Surgical Technician or Advanced Unlicensed Assistant OR 6 months of experience as a certified nursing assistant or surgical technician OR Completion of Surgical Technician or Advanced Unlicensed Assistant course substitutes for the six months of experience.

Sets up and operates hemodialysis machine to provide dialysis treatment for patients with kidney failure. Attaches the dialyzer and tubing to machine to assemble for use. Mixes dialysate, according to formula. Primes dialyzer with saline to prepare machine for use. Transports patient to dialysis unit and positions patient on chair. Takes and records patient's predialysis vital signs. Explains dialysis procedure to patient. Cleans area of access (fistula, graft, or catheter), using antiseptic solution. Inspects equipment settings, including pressures, conductivity and temperature to ensure conformance to safety standards. Starts blood flow pump at prescribed rate. Inspects venous and arterial pressures as registered on equipment to ensure pressures are within established limits. Monitors patient for adverse reactions and machine malfunction. Takes and records patient's postdialysis vitals. Job Requirements: : One (1) year experience as a Hemodialysis Technician. *Licensure: Nationally recognized certification as a Hemodialysis Technician such as the Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician through Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) or Certified Hemodialysis Technician through Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT). CPR certification. NOTE this position maybe underfilled as a Dialysis Tech I - Requirements include: One (1) year of direct patient care experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirement: Incumbents may continue in this position for up to 12 months. During that time, the incumbent must receive certification as a Hemodialysis Technician.
