JOB DESCRIPTION: Emergency Medical Technician SME will instruct all Emergency Medical Technician and related courses at the Center for Domestic Preparedness. The EMT SME will contribute to the strategic plan for the organization and work closely with the SME Course Leader to ensure seamless training delivery. The EMT SME will periodically evaluate training delivery and recommend changes as indicated, assist with review of course outcomes to include weekly After Action Reports, ongoing QA/QC of course, and annual curriculum reviews. Participate in cross-training of instructional staff in related fields to maximize instructor resources and the overall training experience for student responders. Contribute to the development and revision of course materials and assist in the development, review and revision of policies pertaining to training delivery. The EMT SME ensures quality instruction for hospital preparedness and emergency response planning to healthcare personnel and medical professionals for chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear incidents and disastrous events. The curriculum focus is on the application of the emergency management cycle to natural or man-made catastrophic events and the complex environment generated by mass casualty incidents. The instructor provides appropriate, intellectually stimulating instruction, and is responsible for ensuring each student has a challenging, meaningful, and productive experience. The Emergency Medical Technician SME will participate in lecture and practice exercises within Emergency Medical Technician field as assigned. The Emergency Medical Technician SME Instructor will maintain knowledge base as a subject matter expert in the EMT discipline through training and continued involvement in field and maintain qualification to instruct in Emergency Medical Technician related courses. The Emergency Medical Technician SME will interface regularly with national, state, and local officials to maintain expertise in state-of-the art training techniques and methods. REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years experience as an Emergency Medical Technician to include providing pre-hospital and inter-facility basic emergency medical services, providing emergency medical treatments to all patients requiring care, providing transport to the most appropriate facility, completing required documentation and duties in support of an efficient emergency medical service operation, and extrication of trapped individuals. The EMT should also have working knowledge of an all hazards emergency response environment. An additional 5 years related experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree. DESIRED SKILLS: Military experience preferred but not required. Strong preference for experience responding to mass casualty event(s). WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The SME will conduct indoor classroom-style training in a controlled environment, as well as outdoor hands-on demonstrations and exercises in both the extreme heat and cold. The SME must be able to to lift a minimum of 65 pounds (i.e. SCBA equipment) during demonstrations and exercises. This position also requires prolonged standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and pushing and pulling carts containing equipment, and the use of equipment that is noisy with heavy vibrations (i.e. jack hammer) for training demonstrations and exercises. Due to Federal Contract Regulations, U.S. Citizenship is required.
