Must posess a strong knowlege of electronics as normally obtained through the completion of an Associates degree in electronics. Must posses a valid driver's license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policyMust possess a working knowledge of electricity, AC/DC electronics including power supplies, electro/mechanics including motors and motor controls, and hydraulics/pneumatics. Position is located in the Anatomic Pathology Section, Diagnostic Service Line at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) and performs specimen screening for all abnormal cells or other objects of diagnostic significance, using existing cytopathological criteria.  Examines and evaluates the cell sample for the presence or absence of normal/abnormal cellular patterns, presence of microorganisms, inflammatory reactions, endocrinopathies, benign changes, pre-malignant changes, neoplasia and cellular responses to therapeutic agents; evaluates the clinical history data of the patient and correlates this with the microscopic findings.  Assists in the monitoring of activities to include; the operation of the laboratory, utilization and maintenance of equipment, as well as the processing and quality assessment of specimen preparations to ensure optimum preparations for examinations.  Develops and implements the Quality Assurance Program of the Cytology Laboratory to provide uniformity and accuracy of examinations and reports.  Prepares and processes specimens for Fluorescet In-Situ Hybridization (FISH) for investigation of chromosomal abnormalities associated with specific types of cancer (e.g. breast and bladder).  Provides regional, reference cytology support for Northern Arizona VA Health Care System (Prescott VA) and North Texas VA Health Care System (Amarillo VA), and performs FISH testing for University Medical Center, Tucson, AZ.
