Accountable to provide and perform preparation and post procedure clean-up duties in anesthetizing locations throughout the hospital. Provides support services for nurse anesthetists to care for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES:1. Prepare main operating room and neurosurgical operating room for patient anesthesia induction by:a. Maintaining appropriate IV fluids for ready usage6. Exchanges medication cassettes between cases7. Acquires knowledge of anesthesia equipment to troubleshoot when necessarya. Restocking airway carts for ER, Neuro OR, and Main ORb. Assist MD and CRNA's with difficult intubationsc. Assist with trauma cases and emergency cases8. Obtains blood and blood products as needed9. Draws blood samples under direct supervision of MD's or CRNA's10. Transport arterial blood gas samples or laboratory blood samples to appropriate areas11. Assist with control of infection by:a. Completing daily cleaning assignments related to the workroomb. Wipes down horizontal surfaces between infectious cases as neededc. Comply with all infection control procedures regarding laryngoscope blades and bronchoscopes, TEE probe, specialty stylets, and LMA's12. Properly prepares ancillary equipment for use:a. Hyper/Hypothermia unitb. Blood/Fluid warmerc. Glucose monitoring equipment (calibrating daily) and I-Stat usaged. Hemoglobin monitoring equipment (calibrating daily) 13. Assists, as requested, with transport of critically ill patients and equipment14. Assists MD/CRNA with, but does not insert intra-venous lines15. Assists with completion of appropriate forms for:a. Laboratory requisitionsb. Arterial blood gas requisitionsc. Anesthesia charge sheetsd. Pharmacy emergency drug sheetse. IV therapy emergency drug sheets16. Assists MD or CRNA, under direct supervision, with floating of swan-ganz catheter17.
